Dr Charles Siles

Obstetric/ gynaecological sonographer

Dr Charles Siles graduated In Medicine from Melbourne University in 1984. He then went on to specialise as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and practiced for a many years. He also sub specialised in Sonology as an Ultrasound specialist. His ultrasound training commenced in Sydney and completed at Oxford and King’s College London where he worked with Professor Nicolaides (founder of the Nuchal Translucency Fetal Maternal Medicine Foundation). Dr Siles worked with Professor Nicolaides during the development of the world recognised Down Syndrome screening program. Dr Siles also spent some time in Spain (Valencia) working on the prototype of the 3D/4D ultrasound during its developmental phase. He has also worked in Seattle, Washington in the field of Fetal Maternal Medicine. While in Sydney, Dr Siles also completed qualifications in Bioethics and was awarded a Fellow of the College of Legal Medicine as a founding member.

During his ultrasound specialist training, he received a travelling Fellowship and was twice awarded the Melbourne University Scholarship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for Research at the John Radcliffe Hospital as part of Oxford University. Returning to Melbourne, Dr Siles worked as a senior consultant at the Royal Women’s Hospital, as well as setting up a private obstetric and gynaecological practice and a private ultrasound practice. He now works exclusively as a Sonologist at Siles Health (which he founded) and as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Medical Imaging at the Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg.

Dr Siles’ current professional interests are continuing development in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound as well as being in the forefront of genetics, immunology in disease development, fetal cardiology and medical statistics.

Despite his professional experience his main pride is in his children and in being a father. He has three children who occupy most of his social time with whom he enjoys a special bond.
